I wrote this song for Miya almost 30 years ago. It’s a simple tune, one without rhyme but with a steady beat for drumming. When we sang it, we would make up new verses as we went along, calling forth all the things we wished for, both the serious and the silly.

Something Beautiful

People see what they want to see:
Forms, barriers, tradition.
I go beyond and break them –
The spirit dance of myself.

The challenge of the times we live in:
To touch the center within us,
To speak intuitive wisdom,
To know the energies of life.

I’m not sure of my meaning:
I’m just opening doors,
Dropping my burdens and trusting,
Walking through my fears.

The unknown is filled with wonder:
So say the ancient teachers,
Vision givers and receivers,
Ones who heal and make whole.

Over the horizon, it’s coming –
Something beautiful.
Way ya hey ya hey ya hi yo
Way ya hey ya hey ya hi yo

Sit by the fire and warm yourself,
Drum, sing, chant, and pray.
Retreat with me into silence;
Listen to your heart.

I look forward to waking
Under this bowl of sky,
Gently, joyfully loving,
Moving my toes and my soul.

Spirit is singing within me,
Chanting o la maka;
I open myself to her calling
And harmonize caw caw.

Make real the dreams we carry,
Enrich our spirits and hearts,
Let us be safe and happy
In the arms of ourselves.

Over the horizon, it’s coming –
Something beautiful.
Way ya hey ya hey ya hi yo
Way ya hey ya hey ya hi yo

Over the horizon, it's coming –
Something beautiful.
Wey ya hey ya hey ya hi yo
Wey ya hey ya hey ya hi you
