I wrote this song for Miya almost 30 years ago. It’s a simple tune, one without rhyme but with a steady beat for drumming. When we sang it, we would make up new verses as we went along, calling forth all the things we wished for, both the serious and the silly.
Something Beautiful People see what they want to see: Forms, barriers, tradition. I go beyond and break them – The spirit dance of myself. The challenge of the times we live in: To touch the center within us, To speak intuitive wisdom, To know the energies of life. I’m not sure of my meaning: I’m just opening doors, Dropping my burdens and trusting, Walking through my fears. The unknown is filled with wonder: So say the ancient teachers, Vision givers and receivers, Ones who heal and make whole. Over the horizon, it’s coming – Something beautiful. Way ya hey ya hey ya hi yo Way ya hey ya hey ya hi yo Sit by the fire and warm yourself, Drum, sing, chant, and pray. Retreat with me into silence; Listen to your heart. I look forward to waking Under this bowl of sky, Gently, joyfully loving, Moving my toes and my soul. Spirit is singing within me, Chanting o la maka; I open myself to her calling And harmonize caw caw. Make real the dreams we carry, Enrich our spirits and hearts, Let us be safe and happy In the arms of ourselves. Over the horizon, it’s coming – Something beautiful. Way ya hey ya hey ya hi yo Way ya hey ya hey ya hi yo Over the horizon, it's coming – Something beautiful. Wey ya hey ya hey ya hi yo Wey ya hey ya hey ya hi you
This is filled with many somethings beautiful.

Thank you, Carole. I like it. I was so young when I wrote it.

Yes many beautiful somethings. I particularly like the thoughts in the first three stanzas. Perhaps one has to be young to frame those thoughts …

Ahh, yes, youth… bold and daring, making and finding our way, dream-filled. The world was so big and so small at the same time; we were eager to make it bigger and still find our place in it. Thanks for reading and listening.

There are things about being young that I miss, but some things get easier, so long as one does not become emotionally lazy or atrophy. I noted from a previous post of yours that I was born in the same year as you by the way. I think that you have journeyed more bravely than I have. I don’t have nearly that self knowledge.

I like the age connection. Thanks for telling me.
The gentle kindness you extend to me, do also extend to yourself. There are tradeoffs for choices we make. Maybe there was a more courageous path than the one I took. I don’t know. I’m glad each of us found our way to this platform to share our wise selves! 😉
