Vesper for a Sovereign Heart Let wide wings of the earth tonight unfold;
Over this nest block weeping winds of grief,
Like heavy blankets brooding her from cold,
And pulling marrow into soft relief.
May Spirit shield the newly knitted space,
From frantic gales that tear the ancient pine,
And grant this old-growth bough a quiet grace,
Where moss and molded timber now align.
Let breath drop down into its native beat;
Let twigs and mossy roots rebuild the floor.
Unknot the bindings of a past defeat,
And tuck loose ends of twine into the core.
The sheltered nest has served its fledging part;
A bigger sky awaits this sovereign heart.

Composed and updated October 26–27, 2026, in Shakespearean (English) sonnet structure, four days after a healing energy medicine session with a Shaman. I drew the colored-pencil art after writing the sonnet.
