A little while ago, I enjoyed a Scotch pairing of the Redbreast 12 and the Ardbeg Ten while sitting at the bar of Chill Chill Chill in Portland. When I described the campfire warmth, the manager said to me, “Your description is like poetry, like whisky Haiku.” That sparked me to write some real whisky Haiku. I hope you enjoy these small poetic pours.
Whisky Haiku Flight The Contrast
Sweet fruit meets brine smoke,
Redbreast warmth and Islay peat—
Embers in the glass. The Atmosphere
Drift of bog and peat,
Golden spice and glowing oak—
Hearth fire in the throat. The Spark
Warm timbered comfort,
Smoke and tar coated palate—
Verse within the glass. The Redbreast 12
Cinnamon nutmeg,
Honey toasted hazelnut—
Sweet invitation. The Ardbeg Ten
Peat smoke and charred ash,
Soil, moss, and maritime brine—
An ancient wild roar.
Closing Note: Best enjoyed slowly, letting the embers settle.
